Environmentally Friendly Green Burial

Green Burial is a way of caring for the dead with minimal environmental impact that aids in the conservation of natural resources, reduction of carbon emissions, protection of worker health, and the restoration and/or preservation of habitat. Green Burial necessitates the use of non-toxic and biodegradable materials, such as caskets, shrouds, and urns.

Burial

This establishment is one of a select number of funeral homes who are certified to provide  green funeral services by the Green Burial Council; a tax-exempt, nonprofit organization working to encourage environmentally sustainability in the field of funeral service. Our green package allows for a funeral to take place without the use of toxic and non-biodegradable materials or chemicals. It includes our services for body preparation, storage, transportation, private viewing, and the filling out of all necessary documentation, permits and certificates. We offer three biodegradable caskets that are also approved by the Green Burial Council at an additional cost. Please see our General Price List or call us for more details.

As part of our commitment to providing environmentally friendly options for our families, Anders-Rice Funeral Home and Cremation Center has partnered with a few providers, among whom is Passages International, a company that not only provides caskets that are approved by the Green Burial Council, but also are crafted with care according to Fare Trade standards. Below is one example of a casket made by Passages International, which we keep in stock here at the funeral home. We welcome you to schedule a time to come and see our green caskets and get more information on our services.

We work closely with Green Hills Cemetery, which is approved by the Green Burial Council, and is located only 3 minutes from our funeral home! We also work closely with all other area cemeteries or with you on your private property. Give us a call today to discuss the details!

Cremation

Anders-Rice Funeral Home and Cremation Center is also committed to reducing our environmental impact when providing cremation to our families. We do this first by having our own crematory within our building, thereby providing cremation with a lower environmental impact than many other funeral homes by not having to transport your loved one to an off-site crematory. We are also inspected and approved by the Buncombe County Clean Air Agency, through which we undergo an annual inspection during while performing an actual cremation to ensure that we are operating a optimal efficiency with minimal emissions.

We are also able to provide environmentally friendly biodegradable urns for your consideration. Like this Devotion Urn - Eco-Friendly Biodegradable Urn pictured below, which is kept in stock at our funeral home.

We also welcome local individuals that make green caskets and urns to reach out to us to discuss making locally made products available to our families.
