Tony Burton Jones was born on October 28, 1944, in Asheville and passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025, in Black Mountain, surrounded by his loving family. A proud U.S. Navy veteran, Tony exemplified service and commitment throughout his life.
Tony spent most of his adult life working in the oil and gas industry throughout Western North Carolina and he was well known for his incredible work ethic and his integrity. Tony's career as an electrician not only showcased his skills but also his unwavering dedication to his craft. Gas station owners would ask for him by name knowing that every job he did would be done quickly and correctly.
After retirement, Tony applied his skills and passion to developing the ham/emergency radio network in Buncombe county and he was recognized and awarded by the community for the leadership and support he gave to Western North Carolina. He greatly enjoyed "running the net" every Saturday morning and supporting various community events with communication efforts and will fondly be remembered as the voice of KJ4CRO.
As a man deeply rooted in faith, he attended The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Asheville Central Branch, finding strength and devotion in his beliefs and serving in various leadership roles at the branch, ward and stake levels throughout his life. It was a rare volunteer church event that he didn’t support and he used his electrical skills to help those less fortunate.
He is survived by his cherished children: Tony Lee Jones and his wife Anna and Amie Elizabeth Jones. Tony's legacy continues through his grandchildren: Tiffanie Elizabeth Cone and her husband Carrington, Tucker Stewart Workman and his wife Tayler, Nathan Andrew Kotter, Natalie Annabea Kotter Brower and her husband Ryan, and Braden Mitchell Mickelson and his wife Jade. He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren: Harrison Cone, Tru Workman, Tommy Workman, and Trace Workman. His family extended beyond immediate relatives; he will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and extended family, all of whom will carry his spirit forward.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 55 years, Catherine Elizabeth Ward Jones, who left this world on February 25, 2022. Additionally, he was predeceased by his parents, Howard Burton Jones and Madeline Rose Luther Jones, as well as his sister, Ann Wright and his brothers, Howard Jones, Bob Charles Jones, and Dan Jones.
