Asheville Samuel Arthur Moore, Sr., 85, passed away Monday, April 12, 2010 at his home. A native of Charlotte, he had resided in Buncombe County since 1947. He retired in 1988 from Drexel Furniture Company, was a member of Freedom Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran during WWII serving in the 101st Airbourne Division. Mr. Moore was a son of the late William Walter Moore and Floy Stillwell Moore. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, William Ray Moore, Mack Moore and Fulton Moore. Surviving are his wife, Mary Ruth Ingle Moore of the home; daughters, Margaret Patterson of the home, Darlene Stepp of the home and Jackie Moore Smith and husband Doug of Asheville; sons, Samuel A. Moore, Jr. and wife Sharon of Alexander and Larry Dean Moore of Asheville; sisters, Althea Wilkey of Dayton, TN, Lillie Ann Lyda of Weaverville and Mary Moore of Burnsville; brother, Coy Moore and wife Darlene (Dolly) of Asheville; 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held 4 P.M. Wednesday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Everette C. Haney Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends following the services at the funeral home.
