Robert Bernhard, III

Robert “Bobby” Bernhard, III, age 63, of Alexandria, Virginia, passed away unexpectedly due to a sudden cardiac event while vacationing in Asheville, North Carolina on June 12, 2025. 

Bobby was born on December 14, 1961 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Bob and Pat Bernhard. He is survived by his loving wife, Debbie; his three children, Robert Connor Bernhard (Kara), Meredith Bernhard Hernandez (David) and Abby Bernhard; stepchildren, Sean Trenchard (Kate) and Amanda Trenchard. He is also survived by his three sisters, Lisa Bernhard, Bunny Bernhard Hudson (Kevin), Peggy Bernhard McDuffie (Scott), nieces, Madeleine Thornhill, Katie Thornhill, Brady McDuffie Strain (Ben), Maggie McDuffie Meineke (Jack), nephews, William Hudson and Austin Hudson. He also leaves behind many friends and his dog, Archie. 

Bobby graduated from St. Martin’s Episcopal High School, attended the University of Alabama for one year, then graduated from Louisiana State University, where he was a member and president of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He began his professional career in finance in New York City before moving onto his career in the mortgage industry. 

Bobby was most known for his exceptional sense of humor, dance moves and his avid love of sports. Being a diehard New Orleans Saints fan and LSU Tigers fan kept him glued to the TV many weekends, if not attending games in person. He coached every team on which his son, Connor, played and coached several inner-city teams as well as special needs teams. His slapstick humor and crazy antics could make you laugh until you cried and his dance moves were sure to liven up any party. “Bobby” stories will be shared and remembered for years to come! Along with his vibrant, witty personality, Bobby had a heart full of compassion and devotion, which was evident in his love for his wife, children, extended family and friends. Life without “one of a kind” Bobby will be difficult and there are no adequate words to express how much he will be missed. 

Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home & Cemeteries—5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, Louisiana 70124. Visitation 10:00-11:00 am. Inurnment to follow memorial service in Metairie Cemetery.
