Richard Lee Dulin, 86, of Hendersonville, NC, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025.
Born in Mint Hill, North Carolina, Richard devoted his life to service, both in uniform and in his community. He proudly served in the United States Navy for 20 years, including during the Vietnam War, earning multiple commendations for his bravery and dedication. Among his military honors were the Good Conduct Medal and the Purple Heart.
Following his naval career, Richard continued his commitment to public service as a police officer. He was known for his quiet strength, integrity, and steadfast presence.
In his later years, he shared his life with his beloved partner, Cheryl Penland. He was a loving and supportive grandfather figure to his two adopted grandchildren, Luke G. Penland and Logan B. Penland, both of whom he cherished deeply.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Claude Dulin and Sudie Adline Mullis, as well as his siblings: Pauline Whitlow, Ruth Elizabeth Henderson, Minnie Bell Thomas, Robert Luther Dulin, Bobby Glen Dulin, and Morris Mulligan Dulin.
He is survived by his significant other, Cheryl Penland; daughter, Callie Lynn Dulin; his adopted grandchildren, Luke G. Penland and Logan B. Penland; and 17 nieces and nephews who remember him fondly for his generosity, loyalty, and the steady guidance he offered throughout their lives.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Richard’s life was one of commitment—to his country, his community, and those he loved. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
