Asheville Paul William Shope, 83, of 5 Charland Forrest, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he retired in 1993 following over 20 years of service from Nypro Plastics where he served as Manager of the Clean Room. He was a member of Oakley Baptist Church where he had served in the Food Pantry Ministry and was a former member of Gashes Creek Baptist Church. He was Treasurer of the Charland Forrest Home Owners Association since 1968 and was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean War, 47th Infantry Division-Military Police. Mr. Shope was the son of the late Emory L. Shope and Jessie Hall Shope. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Edgar Shope, John Shope and Earl Shope and sisters, Elsie Shope, Frances Aiken, Imogene Pate, Myrtle Crandall and Lillian Glosson. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Shirley Lee Banks Shope of the home; son, Richard Dale Shope and wife Alicia of Fairview; daughter, Cindy Shope Collins and husband John of Asheville; grandson, Dustin Dwayne Collins of Asheville; sister, Mary Silvers of Swannanoa and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Oakley Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Pierce officiating. Burial will follow in Gashes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Larry Dotson, Jerry Best, Darrell Dotson, Jay Gregory, Ted Meadows, James Patches Mitchell and Mike Morningstar serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 PM Sunday at the church.
