Larry Dean Gaddy, affectionately known as "Papaw," passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, July 28, 2025, at the age of 70. Born on December 21, 1954, in Candler, North Carolina, Larry was a lifelong resident of this close-knit community. A proud graduate of Enka High School in 1973, he cherished his roots and remained deeply connected to his hometown throughout his life.
Larry's career was marked by his dedication to Lincare; however, those who knew him would agree that his most cherished role was that of a full-time Papaw. He took immense joy in nurturing his grandchildren and sharing with them the values he held dear. Larry was a devoted family man, and his love for his wife, Sharon Lee Torrence Gaddy, whom he married on June 9, 1974, and recently celebrated their 51-year anniversary, was a testament to their enduring bond.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Grady Leonard Gaddy.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Mary Lee Gaddy; daughter, Stacy Orrell and her husband Edward; his son, Bradley D. Gaddy and his wife Sarah; and his beloved grandchildren: Riley Gaddy, Cadence Orrell, Whitney Orrell, Camden Orrell, Willow Gaddy, and Ellie Gaddy. Additionally, he is survived by his brother, Steve Gaddy and his wife Donna; his sister, Pernee Tesner and her husband Roy; as well as his brothers-in-law, Mike Torrence and his wife Cathy, and Mark Torrence and his wife Brandy. His dog and special companion, Molly, also remains a cherished presence in the lives of his family. Larry's life will also be remembered by many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who enjoyed the warmth and kindness he shared.
Larry's contributions extended beyond his family to his church, where he was a Senior Deacon and a lifetime member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. He found fulfillment as a choir director, and his passion for gospel music led him to sing with several gospel groups over the years, most notably with the Heightsmen Quartet. His love for music and faith was evident in everything he did and served as an inspiration to those around him.
A visitation will be held in honor of Larry on Thursday, July 31, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:45 PM, followed by a funeral service at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, beginning at 3:00 PM. Rev. Ty Allen and Rev. Mike Torrence will officiate. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Larry Dean Gaddy’s life was a testimony to love, faith, and community, leaving behind a legacy intertwined with cherished memories and deep-seated values. The Gaddy family invites all who knew him to join them in celebrating his remarkable life and to share in the memories that will live on in their hearts.
