Kathleen Alexander Shope

May 1, 1925 — December 28, 2012

Mills River Kathleen Kathy Reese Alexander Shope went home to be with her Lord on Friday, December 28, 2012 at St. Josephs Long Term Acute Care Hospital. Born on May 1, 1925, she was a native of Buncombe County and a daughter of the late Oscar and Lucinda Reese. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Coy Gordon Alexander who died in 1986; second husband, Bill Shope who died in 2006; a son, Bronson Keith Alexander; a daughter, Mary Katherine Alexander; sisters, Christine Caldwell and Juanita Ponder and brothers, Willard, Clyde, Elmer, Billy and Bobby Reese. Kathleen is survived by her daughters, Carolyn McLemore (Isaac), Sharon Robinson and Becky Briggs (Harold); sons, Don Alexander (Melba), Bill Alexander (Jackie), Dennis Alexander and Douglas Alexander; brother, Jim Reese (Claudine); sister, Pauline Dorsey Jamerson (Bob); sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Alexander and Helen Reese; 22 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. Mamaw was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and role model who will be missed dearly by all her family and friends. A member of Fletcher First Baptist Church; she enjoyed family gatherings, spending time and having lunches with her many friends, tending her flowers and searching for treasures at Goodwill. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 PM Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Anders-Rice Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM, Monday, December 31, 2012 at Fletcher First Baptist Church with the Revs Roy Waldroup and Johnny Tiller officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Enka. Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Ike McLemore, Jr., Jeremy, John, Corey, Nathan, Caleb and Ben Alexander, Jonathan Robinson and Tyson Briggs. The family would like to thank all the staff at Mission Health Systems and Care Partners for their excellent and compassionate care.
