June Davis Cutshaw

June was born May 7,1937, in Rutherford County, North Carolina, to Calvin and Lola Hollifield Davis who preceded her in death. She is also preceded by her beloved sister, Betty Jean Davis Cutshaw. She is survived by her son and loving caregiver, Olin Terrance Cutshaw. She is also survived by her nephew, Jamie Parham, and sisters-in-law, Lana Cutshaw Robinson and Josephine Cutshaw DeVinney.

June graduated in the last graduating class at West Buncombe High School in 1955. There she was “Miss West Buncombe High School” and participated in all the school’s activities. She attended Asheville-Biltmore College (now UNCA).

June was known for her beautiful singing and speaking voice. She was employed at WISE radio and WLOS TV where she voiced many of their commercials. Those who knew her always knew when her voice came on the air.

June could always see the good in others. Perhaps the proudest moments of her working career came from her days as Sentencing Specialist for the Buncombe County Courts. In that position she always sought to find the redeeming qualities in the defendants and help them use those qualities to change the course of their lives.

Nature was another of June’s loves. Each Spring she would get so excited to see the weeds begin to sprout because she knew the flowers were not far behind. She loved to select the flowers and plants that would surround her home each year.

In addition to loving her son beyond measure, June loved her Cocker Spaniels, Shannon (deceased) and Mandy. She also took great pleasure in watching the squirrels and birds and other creatures around her home.

Terry wishes to thank the staff at Four Seasons Home Hospice and especially nurses Julia and Karen for their compassionate care during his mother’s final days.

June’s family and friends will celebrate her life at a later date.
