Joan McCurry Rhew Banks, 85, passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Luther Martin and Fuchsia Wallen McCurry. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, John George Rhew; second husband, Benny Carroll Banks; step-son, Benny Carroll Banks, Jr.; Sons-in-law: Boyd Cope, Paul Cope, Robert Bailey; special friend of Shirley Bailey: Dusty Rhodes, and 7 brothers and sisters. Surviving are her children: Shirley Bailey of Asheville, Donna OConnor (Michael) of Asheville, Sandra Brooks (Johnny) of Marietta, GA, Deborah Angel (Jerry) of Arden, and Judy Davidson (Steve) of Swannanoa; special sister-in-law, Virginia Langston of Asheville; grandchildren: Robbie Bailey, Lori Austin, Josh, Nathan, Jason, and Caleb OConnor, Leah Cole, Heather Higgins, Heath Cope, Christie Brookshire, Tiffany Abbey, Brett Angel, Brandi Norton, Justin Shelton, Logan Banks, and Savannah Toth; 34 great grandchildren; and 8 nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 8, 2014 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Cecil Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in West Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home, and other times at 190 Wilson Cove Road, Swannanoa. The family would like to offer a heartfelt Thank You to the staff of the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center for the care and compassion shown towards Joan while she was under their care.
