James Russell "Jim" Young

January 11, 1936 — February 25, 2007

Asheville - James Russell Jim Young, 71, of 97 Elkwood Avenue died Sunday February 25, 2007 at the Asheville V.A. Medical Center after a brief illness. A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was of the Baptist Faith. He served with the U.S. Army as an MP on Okinawa. He was a tank truck driver with over 40 years of accident free driving, having worked for several trucking companies and retiring from Biltmore Oil Company. He was a son of the late Thomas Plato and Gwendolyn Jarvis Young and was also preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Young and a brother, Rev. Thomas J. Young. Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Joan Young of the home; sons, R. Allan Young of Asheville and Ben Young (Veronica) of Alexander; daughter, Heather Young Odom (Curtis) of Asheville; sister, Marjorie Eagan and husband William of Winter Park, FL; brother, John L. Young and wife Beth of Asheville; sister-in-law, Delores Young of Lake Havasu, AZ; two grandchildren, Hayden Odom and Geneva Claire Young; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 6:00 P.M. Thursday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Ronnie Owen officiating. The family will receive friends following services at the funeral home.
