Jacqueline Elaine Collins Moss, affectionately known as Jackie, was born on October 21, 1958, and departed this life unexpectedly on Friday, October 31, 2025, in Asheville, North Carolina. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Jackie touched the lives of many through her dedicated efforts and caring nature.


Jackie had a fulfilling career spanning many years with the Buncombe County School System and was currently employed at the Mount Carmel Child Enrichment Center. She had an unwavering passion for working with children, which shone through in every aspect of her life. Jackie was also a proud graduate of Clyde A. Erwin High School class of 1977, where she began to lay the foundation for a life dedicated to service and education. She graduated fro Asheville-Buncombe Community College with an associates degree in Early childhood development. As a pastime Jackie was an exceptional seamstress and managed her own sewing business.


Beyond her professional accomplishments, Jackie was an active member of New Liberty Baptist Church. Throughout the years, she served honorably as a Deacon's wife, taught Sunday School, sang in the Choir, and contributed to the church community in many significant ways. Her steadfast commitment to her faith and her church family exemplified her caring spirit. Jackie’s unwavering love for children led her to become a foster mother to many children in transition for repaired or new families. She had a gift making these children feel loved and safe. She was involved with Erwin youth League for many years as a cheer coach for the football teams.


Jackie is survived by her beloved husband, DeLane E. Moss; her mother, Stella Miller Stills, and her husband, Cecil; her sons: Christopher Collins, Caleb Collins and wife Zoe, and Matthew Nix; her son-in-law, Kelby Shook; her step-daughter, MyLissa Fultz; her grandchildren: Pailey Ketchum and husband Cole, Wyatt Shook, Lewis Collins, Eva Collins, Shaylee Ann Fultz, and Charlie Jade Fultz; and a great-grandson on the way, Beau Ketchum. She is also survived by her siblings: Shalene Morrow, Kathleen Case and husband Jerry, Beverly Schrier and husband Todd, and LaJean Morrow-Smith and husband Joey, many nieces and nephews; and her lifetime friends, Denise and Rick Huntley, and Larry and Jenny Rogers. She also leaves behind her side kick pup Leroy


Jackie was preceded in death by her father, Barry Joe Morrow; her husband of 50 years, Charles "Doug" Collins, her daughter, Danita Erin Shook; and her brothers, Barry Joe Morrow, Jr. and Christopher Morrow.


A Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM, followed by a Celebration of her Life at 2:00 PM, both at New Liberty Baptist Church located at 625 Olivette Road, Asheville, NC 28804. Rev. Jonathan Sluder and Rev. Garry Rogers will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery.


Jackie’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her, with her legacy of love, compassion, and dedication to her family and community serving as inspiration for all. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
