Gloria Barnette, a beloved figure of the Asheville community, passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at her home surrounded by family. Born on January 2, 1939, in Asheville, Gloria devoted her life to serving others and profoundly impacted the lives of those around her.

As the founder and owner of Aid to the Elderly and Disabled Recipients on Social Security, Gloria showcased her unwavering commitment to helping the vulnerable populations of Asheville. For many years, she worked tirelessly, ensuring that residents received the assistance they needed and deserved. Her work was not just a career; it was a calling that mirrored her compassionate spirit and dedication to community service.

A longtime member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Gloria cherished her involvement until her health no longer permitted her attendance. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and enriching her relationships with those fortunate enough to know her.

Gloria is survived by her grandchildren: Wayne Sayers and his wife Elizabeth Brugger, Crickit Eubank and her husband Willie, and William James and his wife Deann, who carry on her legacy with love and affection. She also leaves behind a vibrant family with ten great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, who will remember her warmth and kindness. Gloria’s extended family, including many nieces and nephews, will always cherish the memories shared with her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Barnette, a partnership that grounded her throughout their lives together. Gloria also reunites with her parents, Joseph H. Fore and Gertrude Jane Whitaker Fore; her daughter, Darlene Angelique James; her son Keith Parham; her great-granddaughter; and her siblings: Juanita Lindsey, Rachel Jones, Herman Fore, Louise Fore, Berniece Fore, Johnny Fore, and Boyce Fore.

Gloria Barnette’s life was one marked by selflessness, resilience, and a steadfast commitment to helping others. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her. Her legacy of kindness will continue to inspire generations to come.

A graveside service to honor her life will be announced soon.
