Glenda Lanning Blackwell

Glenda Lanning Blackwell passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 25, 2025, at the age of 66 in Leicester, North Carolina while surrounded by her family.

Born on June 17, 1959, in Buncombe County, she was known for her unwavering dedication to her family and her warm, loving nature. Glenda was preceded in death by her parents, Sebern Earl Lanning and Juanita Mathis Lanning; a baby in 1987; her sister-in-law, Terry Lanning; and her beloved cat, Abby.

As a devoted homemaker, Glenda took great joy in nurturing her family, especially her granddaughters, Sara Peek and Emily Peek. She had a special bond with her husband of 49 years, George "Buddy" William Blackwell, Jr., and shared a close relationship with her daughter Belinda Peek and son-in-law Timothy. Her love for family extended beyond her immediate household.

Glenda's vibrant personality was complemented by her affinity for animals, particularly her pets, and her fondness for cows. Her home was always filled with warmth and laughter. She took great joy in gathering with her family, fostering connections that transcended generations.

She is survived by her loving husband, George "Buddy" William Blackwell, Jr.; daughter, Belinda Peek and her husband Timothy; granddaughters: Sara Peek and Emily Peek; siblings: Joan Robinson and husband Martin, Joyce Guice and husband Bobby, Wayne Lanning, and Anthony Lanning; many beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family; and beloved cat, Bailey. Glenda’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of her family and friends, particularly felt by those who knew her kind spirit and generous heart.

Funeral services will take place at 11 AM on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Ronnie Owen officiating. Burial will follow at the Lanning-Pittillo Cemetery. The family invites all who knew Glenda to join them to celebrate her remarkable life and the profound impact she made on everyone around her.

A visitation to honor Glenda’s life will be held on Monday, July 28, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
