Gary Evans, born on April 3, 1948, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, peacefully departed this life on August 26, 2025, in Candler, North Carolina. He lived a life marked by resilience, devotion, and service to his country.

A proud U.S. Army Vietnam War Veteran, Gary exemplified courage and commitment during his military service, embodying the values of duty and honor. His experiences during this pivotal time shaped his character and left a lasting impact on those who knew him.

Gary was the beloved husband of the late Wanda Gail Mathis Evans, whom he married on July 24, 1992. Their bond, built on love and mutual respect, lasted until her passing on July 16, 2022. Her memory remained a guiding light in Gary's life, and he honored her legacy with every action and decision.

He is survived by his children: JR Evans, James Stanley Ehlenbach, Tammy Marie Ehlenbach, and Brandy Nicole Patterson; bloved granddaughter and caretaker, Destiney Fontaine; and great-granddaughter, Brenya Fontaine who each cherished their unique relationship with him and carry forward Gary's strength and unwavering spirit. 

Gary's legacy is further connected to his parents, Ben Holmes and Shirley Elizabeth Bunt Holmes, who preceded him in death. They instilled in him the values of kindness, integrity, and perseverance which he imparted to his family.

Gary Evans will be remembered for his contributions to his family, his community, and his country. His life, rich with experience and love, has left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate to know him.

A service to clebrate Gary's life will be held at a later date.
