Frances Stevens

Asheville - Mary Frances Greene Newton Stevens, 96, of Asheville, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Fleshers Fairview Healthcare. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Mrs. Stevens was a graduate of Biltmore High School, and was formerly employed with the Buncombe County Register of Deeds. She was a member of Gashes Creek Baptist Church, and a former member of Westwood Baptist Church. Mrs. Stevens was the daughter of the late Bert Eugene and Lottie Spain Greene. She was also preceded in death by her husbands: Robert C. Bob Newton, Sr., and Harry Stevens; son, Robert Newton, Jr.; brother, Johnny Greene; and sisters: Bette Gaines and Helen Lee. Surviving are her daughter-in-law, Linda Newton; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday in Pisgah View Memorial Park, with the Rev. Dr. John T. Tiller officiating. The family will receive friends following the services at the cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Eliada Home for Children, 2 Compton Drive, Asheville, NC 28806. The family would like to offer a special Thank You to the staff of Fleshers Fairview Healthcare for the care and compassion shown to Mrs. Stevens during her stay there.
