Brenda Brookshire King

Candler Brenda Lance Brookshire King, 66, of Candler, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, November 3, 2015. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Mrs. King worked as a telemarketer and as a caregiver to many foster children. She was a devoted member to the Asheville Seventh Day Baptist Fellowship Church, hosting services in her own home for several years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved the Lord, and will be greatly missed. Mrs. King was the daughter of the late Kenneth Harrison and Mary Freck Lance. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Willard Butler (Bill) Brookshire; son, Charles Brookshire; and sister, Wanda Letterman. Surviving are her husband, Bobby King; children: Sandra Brookshire, W. Nathan Brookshire and life partner Timothy L. Cagle, and Gail Brookshire; adopted daughter, Rachel Stephanie Austin and husband Dakota; foster children: William Mosley and David Duncan; grandchildren: Anthoni Brookshire and Jonathan Mashburn; brother, Rev. Kenneth Lance, Jr.; foster sister, Irene Gonzalez and husband Jose; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home. Burial will follow in New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery, with David Duncan, Nathan Brookshire, Anthoni Brookshire, Joseph Franz, Brayan Gonzalez and Jose Gonzalez serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6:30 8:30 PM Friday at the funeral home.
