Bobbie Smith

Asheville - Bobbie Bell Herila Smith, 85, passed away Friday, March 28, 2014 at the WNC Baptist Retirement Home. A native of Sneedville, TN, Mrs. Smith had resided in Buncombe County since 1964. She was a former Quality Control Inspector with Taylor Instrument Company, and was a member of Oakley Baptist Church. She loved dancing and quilting. Mrs. Smith was born April 15, 1928 to the late Doss and Lura Petrey Bell. She was also preceded in death by her husbands: Mike Herila (1969) and Robert Smith (2005); son, Teddy Herila (2009); sons-in-law: David Bailey (2007) and Gus McCurry (2008); and five brothers. Surviving are her children: Mary Sis Bailey, Micheal Herila and wife Mary, and Freda McCurry; daughter-in-law, Lisa Herila; grandchildren: Stephanie, Melissa, Travis, Joshua, Jase, Jessie, Adam, Theo, and Samantha; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 great, great-grandchild; sisters: Genis, Ada, and Carolyn; brothers: Smith and Alfred; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 5 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steve Brockwell officiating. The family will receive friends following the services at the funeral home. The family wishes to express a special Thank You to the physicians and staff of the WNC Baptist Retirement Home, as well as Care Partners Hospice for the loving care shown to Mrs. Smith.
