Agnes Ward Cathey, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at her home in Candler, surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 28, 1942, in Morristown, Tennessee, Agnes lived a life filled with joy, warmth, and a deep love for those around her.

Agnes graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1960 and furthered her education at AB Tech and Cecil's Business College, where she obtained her degree in Accounting. She retired from Champion Credit Union, and formerly worked at Gerber and Square D, where she left behind fond memories among her coworkers. Agnes was well-loved for her vibrant personality; she was known as a social butterfly who thrived on the connections she made with people. Her love for Elvis further showcased her spirited nature and joyful approach to life.

She was married to her loving husband, Norman Douglas Cathey, for 58 wonderful years. Together, they built a beautiful family that includes their children: Jerry Dale Cathey and his wife Leigh, Craig Douglas Cathey and his husband Chris Oberholtzer, and Michael James Cathey. Agnes took immense pride in her grandchildren, who brought her boundless joy: Cooper Cathey, Tyler Oberholtzer, and Anna Robinson.

Agnes also cherished her role as a sister to Patsy Dotson and her husband Joe, and was a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews, who will forever hold her memory close. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Brenda C. Hinson. She was preceded in death by her parents, William "Bill" Basil Ward and Helen Daily Lamb Ward; her infant daughter, Terri Lynn Cathey, and her siblings, Billy Ward, Charles Ward, James "Jim" Ward, Betty Rollins, and Mary Patelidas.

A graveside service to celebrate Agnes's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Pisgah View Memorial Park in Candler.
