Alexander Virginia Gee Ownbey, 83, of 52 Devanna Drive, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2007 . A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Virginia was a member of North Asheville Baptist Church. She was a homemaker, and later worked as a sales associate at the S&H Green Stamp Store and at Wal-Mart. She immensely enjoyed her role as a mother, aunt and mammaw and demonsrated this by being a Girl Scout leader as well as chauffering neighborhood children to their different activities. She was dearly loved and will be missed by her own children as well as those she loved and treated like her own. She had many friends and family who loved her and will miss her as well. She was the perfect example of a christian woman She affected all those she came in contact with her in a positive way. Virginia was the daughter of the late Walter Albert and Lillie Artessa Plemmons Gee, and was the widow of Harley Elmer Ownbey. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Rowena Gee Lachot, and brother, Harold Gee. Surviving are her son, Larry Wayne Ownbey and wife Linda of Seneca, SC; daughters: Karen A Ownbey of West Asheville, and Diane Ownbey Lyda and husband Daryl of Alexander; granddaughters: Melissa Ownbey Pearson and husband Jimmy, and Devon and Danna Lyda; great-granddaughter, Courtney Pearson; aunt, Ruby Neiman of Asheville; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held at 2 PM Saturday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jimmy Dykes and Rev. William Clodfelter officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Flowers are accepted, or memorial donations may be made to the Western Carolina Rescue Ministries, 225 Patton Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801, or to the American Heart Association, PO Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216.
