Toccoa, GA - Mrs. Sallie Mangham Penland, age 91, of Toccoa, passed away Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Stephens County Hospital. Born January 16, 1921 in Atlanta, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Dr. T. G. Mangham, Sr. and Sarah Margaret Dunn Mangham. Mrs. Penland was a homemaker, beloved mother, and served beside her husband as pastors wife with the Christian and Missionary Alliance for many years. She also worked a number of years as an assistant to the Controller at Toccoa Falls College. She was a member of Cornerstone Alliance Church of Asheville, NC. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Dr. Ferrell Towns; sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. Nathan Penland, Jr., Dr. Thomas Penland and Shirley, Timothy Penland and Joyce and Dr. Jonathan Penland and Debbie; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rev. David Mangham and Harriet, Dr. Harold Mangham and Martha, Rev. Forrest Mangham and Faye and Rev. Dick Mangham and Rhetta; a sister, Peggy Enloe; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Mangham; 32 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Nathan Penland, Sr.; a daughter-in-law, Candy Penland; a brother-in-law, Ralph Enloe; a brother, Dr. Grady Mangham. Funeral services will be held at ten oclock Monday, March 5, 2012 at the Chapel of Whitlock Mortuary with Dr. Ferrell Towns, the Rev. Frank Clay, and Dr. John Murphree officiating. Burial will follow at Cane Creek Cemetery in Fairview, NC. Grandsons will serve as active and honorary pallbearers; Lee Towns, Ira Towns, Shan Towns, Nathan Penland, Matthew King, John Wendland, Kirk Hawkins, Darren Price, Joe Kim, Tommy Penland, Ben Penland, Brett Adams, Jon Penland, Joe Penland, Joel Penland, Stephen Towns, Justin Towns, Brandon King, Nicholas King, and Micah Irvin. The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 9 am until 9:45 am Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rev. Nathan Penland, Sr. Student Scholarship Fund at Toccoa Falls College. Whitlock Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements. www.whitlockmortuary.net
