Roy "Bud" Crowell, Jr.

July 18, 1924 — September 16, 2009

Candler - Roy Churchwell Bud Crowell, Jr., 85, of 22 Janet Road joined his fellow fallen Marines Wednesday September 16, 2009 at his residence. He was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County, a lifelong dairy farmer and also retired from Burlington Industries following over 10 years of service. He was WW II Veteran, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps. in the South Pacific where he received numerous medals including 2 Purple Hearts and he also served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a son of the late Roy Churchwell Crowell, Sr. and Vivian Virginia Vaughn Crowell and the husband of the late Mary Frances Johnson Crowell who died July 8, 1970. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Tommy Crowell and Bob Crowell. Surviving are his children, Linda Roberts of Leicester, Jim Crowell and wife Diane of Candler and Jean Fender and husband Howard of Candler; 11 grandchildren including Marie Crowell with whom he made his home; 17 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson and his sisters, Virginia Wilson of Pinehurst and Betty Crowder and husband Ted of Hodges, SC. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Wes Austin officiating and military honors provided by the Asheville High School Marine Corp. Jr. ROTC. The family will receive friends following services at the funeral home.
