Rev. Lawrence Albert Lindsey

Asheville Rev. Lawrence Albert Lindsey, 83, formerly of 20 Cherokee Road, passed away Friday, March 14, 2008 at the Golden Living Center in Hendersonville. A native of the Spring Creek Community of Madison County, Rev. Lindsey had resided in Buncombe County since 1944. He retired from S.I. Bean Tile and Marble after 38 years of service, and served as pastor for Union Baptist Church for 22 years. He was a US Army veteran of World War II, where he received two purple hearts. Rev. Lindsey was the son of the late Rev. Jasper Garfield and Mary Graves Lindsey. He was also preceded in death by three sisters: Thelma Justice, Ruby Snyder and Amanda James; and brother, Howard Lindsey. Surviving are his wife, Ruth Hicks Lindsey, of the home; daughters: Brenda Kuykendall and husband William Doug of Inman, SC, Gail Dailey and husband Larry of Andrews, and Mary Shuffler and husband Frank of Candler; sons: Lawrence Albert Lindsey, Jr. and wife Debbie of Andrews, and James Jimmy Lindsey and wife Beth of Asheville; sisters: Jean DiBlasio of Waynesville, Louise Minton and husband Pete of Tampa, FL, and Inez Kimbell and husband Dan of Horse Shoe; brothers: Edward Lindsey and wife Lela of Candler, and Garfield Junior Lindsey, Jr. and wife Georgia of Marshall; 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Monday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ray Roberts and Rev. Lawrence Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, with military graveside rites provided by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
