Nydia "Nanny" Kuykendall

Nydia "Nanny" Kuykendall, 83, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2011 at John F. Keever, Jr. Solace.. "Nanny" was a native of Buras, LA and had resided most of her life in Buncombe County. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Rose Marie Taveney Cormier and was also preceded in death by husband, William "Bill" Kuykendall, sons, Jr., Allen and Paul, brother, Douglas Cormier and sister, Dorothy Barras. "Nanny" was a member of Inanda Baptist Church and will always be remembered for her hundreds of embroidered pillow cases she made for travel pillows. Surviving are son Doug Kuykendall, daughter, Rosemary Kuykendall (Mike), daughters-in-law, Pat and Eva Kuykendall, brother, E.J Cormier and wife, Robby, grandchildren, Jeff Kuykendall (Myra), Teresa Massey (Jeff), Hoppy Kuykendall (Angela), Dab Kuykendall (Tracy), Christy Duyck (Aaron), Richard Kuykendall and Jason Morris, great-grandchildren, Samantha Mundy (Brian), George Massey, Cameron Sluder, Hannah, Zachary, Zane and Derek Kuykendall, Haley Duyck and Chasiti Robinson, special adopted children, Mike Rice, Helen Hall (Wade), Jana Thompson (Buddy) Walt Robertson (Bobby), LaDonna Norton, and Denise Montgomery (Doug), special adopted grandchildren, Brandon Carroll (Mindy), Casey Fillenger (Heather), Bryan Styles (Tamera), Kathy Goodrich (Tim), Alisa Wilson, Ben Jones (Christa), and Jeff Banks, several nieces and nephews and all her loved ones at Buncombe County Sheriff's Office and Woodfin Police Dept. Funeral services will be held Wednesday July 20 at 11 AM in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Revs, Terry House, Jeff Massey and Richard Baird officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. Pallbearers will be Aaron Duyck, James Missel, Josh Webb, Hoppy, Richard and Dab Kuykendall. Honorary pallbearers will be Sherriff Van Duncan, Charles Silvers, Tracy Williams, Eddie Oglesbee, Rene Kuykendall and the North Topsail Beach Police Department. The family will receive friends from 6-9 PM Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Anders-Rice Funeral Home. The family would like to express a heartfelt "Thank You" to the physicians and staff of St. Joseph Hospital and the John F. Keever, Jr. Hospice Solace Center.
