Mildred Murray Peck of Bent Tree Road passed into Glory at 5:45 p.m, Monday, September 5, 2011. She was 91 years old. Born in Raleigh, NC in 1920, Mrs. Peck attended Bob Jones University and Lewisburg College, where she was elected May Queen in 1939. She worked for several years in the administrative offices of Rex Hospital in Raleigh. In 1953, she married Walter R. Peck, to whom she was married for 56 years, until his passing in 2009. For the majority of those years, Mrs Peck served in various capacities at the Asheville Gospel Chapelyouth work, Sunday School, community outreach, charitable work, and the teaching of younger women. She was also active as a volunteer at the Asheville Christian Academy. Mrs. Peck is survived by three children: Walter Richard Peck, Jr. of Dallas, Texas; Anne Peck Gibbons of Greenville, South Carolina; and David Murray Peck of Black Mountain, as well as daughters-in-law, Mary Lind Peck and Sandra Kilgore Peck; a son-in-law, James Gibbons; grandchildren, Jonathan David Peck, Kristen Rena Peck, Tiffany Briggs, and Melissa Sue Peck, great-grandchildren Hunter Peck and Hadley Briggs. Mrs. Peck is also survived by her brother David Murray of Raleigh and her sister Anne Murray Epperson, of Atlanta, Ga. In her passing, Mrs. Peck is preceded by her husband Walter R. Peck, a daughter-in-law, Ruth Anne Rawls Peck, a granddaughter Sarah Rebecca Peck, sister, Rebecca Murray and two brothers, William Murray and Edward Murray. Friends may call at Anders-Rice Funeral Home, Thursday evening, Sept 8, from 7-9. A memorial service will be held at Anders-Rice, Friday, Sept 9, at 11am, with graveside service to follow at Lewis Memorial Park. It is Mrs. Pecks wish that donations be made in lieu of flowers to Camp Maranatha of Fairview, Asheville Gospel Chapel, and Pittsboro Christian Village (where she spent her final hours).
