Merdia Calvin Davis

July 2, 1914 — February 3, 2005

Asheville Merdia Calvin Davis, 90, formerly of Olivette Road, passed away Thursday, February 3, 2005 at the Western North Carolina Baptist Home after an extended illness. A native of McDowell County, he had lived in Buncombe County for the past 50 years. He was a retired loom mechanic from Burlington Industries, and was a member of Victory Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Jaspor and Bertha Hicks Davis. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Davis Cutshaw. Surviving are his wife, Lola Bell Hollifield Davis, also of the WNC Baptist Home; his daughter, June Cutshaw of Fletcher; two grandsons: James Parham of Arden and Terry Cutshaw of Fletcher; his sister, Bessie Burgess of Pleasant Gardens; and his brother, Burgin Davis, also of Pleasant Gardens. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Monday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Larry Sprinkle officiating. Burial will be in the Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 4-6 PM Sunday evening at the funeral home.
