Maurice "Skeet" Plemmons

March 24, 1938 — March 7, 2017

Asheville Maurice Skeet Kendall Plemmons, 78, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he graduated from Lee Edwards High School in 1957, and later retired from WLOS in 2013 with over 55 years of service. He enjoyed photography and model airplanes and was a Premier Professional Photographer for more than 50 years through his company: Maurice Plemmons Photography. He was a member of Mt. Hermon Masonic Lodge, the NRA, the Civil War Roundtable, and a past President of the Asheville Rifle & Pistol Club. He was a Scout Master of the Boy Scouts and started one of the first Troops in the region for children with special needs. Skeet was a faithful and devoted follower of Christ, and served in various positions including many terms as an Elder of Oak Forest Presbyterian Church of which he was a longtime member. Mr. Plemmons was a son of the late Maurice Kendall Plemmons, Sr. and Martha Lorraine Gruetter Plemmons. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Diana Penley Plemmons; daughter, Terri Ashalintubbi and husband Dennis; sister, Sandra Bryson and husband Tommy; brother, Richard G. Plemmons and wife Betty Jane BJ; brother-in-law, Jesse Portland Goodman, III and wife Carol; and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday, March 13, 2017 at Oak Forest Presbyterian Church with Pastor David Morgan officiating. A private entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home.
