Leicester - Mack Wesley Angel, 80, of 90 Griffin Branch Road died peacefully in his sleep Sunday March 21, 2004. A native of Yancey County. He had resided in Buncombe County most oh his life. Mack was a deputy for the Buncombe County Sheriffs Department for many years. He was an avid sportsman and spent much of his time in the mountains of Western North Carolina fishing its lakes and rivers and hunting for that big buck. He showed generations how to tell if the fish were biting and where the biguns were. From early spring till late fall one could always find him working in his beloved garden. He showed the true value of hard work through his garden and a little cold air and a little rain never stopped him from keeping that garden up. He was one of the last true old timers. He was the son of the late Willard and Lina Parris Angel and is also preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Angel; three sisters, Bertha Tipton, Demi Griffin, Sue DeBruhl and five brothers, Howard, Homer, Johnny, Ralph and Jay Angel. Surviving are his sons, Larry Angel and wife, Barbara of Leicester, Doug Angel and wife, Joyce of Marshall; daughter, Maxine Cook and husband, Larry of Sandy Mush; five grandchildren, Michelle Payne of Leicester, Larry Cook, Jr. of Sandy Mush, Chad Angel of Asheville, Cara Angel of Leicester, Stephanie Angel of Marshall; one great grand-child, Delta Doan; two sisters, Wilma Hollifield of Candler and Christine Moore of Leicester and one brother, Sam Angel of Alexander. Funeral services will be held 3 P.M. Wednesday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Jennis Sluder officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Funeral Home.
