Lewis Barnwell

Fletcher - Lewis James Barnwell, 81, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. A native of Henderson County, Mr. Barnwell had resided in Miami, FL for 22 years before returning to Fletcher. He retired as Sergeant from the Miami-Dade County Sheriffs Office, and, upon his return to Fletcher, worked as a mechanic for Barnwell Brothers Diesel Services and as a delivery driver for Cane Creek Pharmacy. He was also an active member of Trinity Baptist Church. His passion was his garage, where he spent many hours restoring classic cars. Mr. Barnwell was the son of the late Rev. Odell James and Florence Marie Buckner Barnwell. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Shirley Luther Barnwell; son, Keith Barnwell and wife Crystal; grandchildren: Marie Riddle and husband Justin, and Brian Edward Workman; great-grandchildren: Keilee Riddle, Lorrianna Barnwell and Nicholas Barnwell; sister: Doris Bagwell and husband Butch; brothers: Rev. Dewey Barnwell and wife Linda, William Barnwell and wife Barbara, and Roland Barnwell and wife Rachel; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Saturday at Trinity Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Ralph Sexton, Jr., Rev. Allen Rash, and Rev. Davis Plemmons officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 2:15 PM at the church. The family would like to offer a special Thank You to the physicians and staff of Four Seasons Hospice, the staff and members of Trinity Baptist Church, and to all of their loving family members for their support during this time.
