James Marvin Cowan, 82, of the Laurelwoods Assisted Living, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2017 at the Hospice House, Landrum, SC. A native of Indian Head, MD, he resided in Northern Virginia most of his life working as an Air Traffic Controller for the FAA. He later retired in Lady Lake, FL before moving to Columbus, NC. James was a US Air Force Veteran, and enjoyed life, playing golf, and watching the Washington Redskins play football. He was a son of the late James Marshall Cowan and Elizabeth Cooksey Cowan. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Gillette Cowan. Surviving are his son, Michael Cowan of Alexander; daughter, Terri Cowan and granddaughter, Danielle Cowan both of Ocala, FL; sister, Betty Cowan of Water Oaks, FL; brother, Edmond Cowan of Conyers, GA; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, January 14, 2017 in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Oxner officiating. Military honors to be conducted by the U.S. Air Force. The family will receive friends for 1 hour prior to services on Saturday at the funeral home.
