Helen Ruth Wade

Asheville - Helen Ruth Bates Wade, 78, of 751 Brevard Road, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2006 at Asheville Specialty Hospital following a period of declining health. A native of Madison County, she had resided most of her life in Buncombe County. She retired from the spinning department of American Enka, and was a member of the VFW Post 3040. She was the daughter of the late Avon and Mella Cody Bates, and was the widow of the late Justin Eugene Wade. She was also preceded in death by her son, Richard Dale Wade; two brothers: Harold Bates and Charles Bates; and a sister, Bobbie Candler. Surviving are her companion of 28 years, Hoover Brooks; five daughters: Lib McMahan and husband Eddie, Sandy Austin and companion Bobby Brackett, and Jeannie McMahan and husband Larry, all of Asheville, Sherry Ball and husband Harold of Candler, and Carrie Brackett and companion David Jackson of Asheville; two sisters: Beula Emory and Peggy Johnson, both of Asheville; a brother, Carroll Bates of Asheville; 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 3 great, great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Danny Gasperson officiating. Burial will be in the Bent Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
