Asheville George Lee Farlow, Sr., 84, of 298 Waynesville Avenue, lost his five year battle with cancer on March 29, 2010 at his home. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he retired from the City of Asheville as a Supervisor in the Water Department. Mr. Farlow was also the owner and operator of Crossroads Grocery as well as the Gas-Up Convenience Store. He was a member of Sardis United Methodist Church, but had been attending The Dwelling Place. He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving during World War II. Mr. Farlow was the son of the late Harley and Ennis Sercy Farlow, and the husband of Thelma Cash Farlow, who passed away in May, 2005. Surviving are his daughters: Gayle Cole and Teresa Huskins, both of Asheville, and Lynn Sales and husband Roger of Fairview; son, George Farlow, Jr. of Asheville; sisters: Dorothy Dot Worley and husband Robert, Ruby Buckner, and Alice Queen; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Thursday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Enoch Ball, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM Wednesday at the funeral home, and at other times the family will be at the home, 298 Waynesville Avenue, Asheville.
