Forrest Adair Hughes

April 4, 1934 — October 22, 2006

Candler Forrest Adair Hughes, 72, of 11 Blue Bell Drive, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2006 at Pisgah Manor Health Care Center following a period of declining health. A native of Haywood County, he had resided in Buncombe County since 1948. He retired from APAC as a truck driver, and was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church. Mr. Hughes was the son of Cora Maude Gibson Hughes of Asheville, and the late Fred Lester Hughes, who passed away in 1994. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Sams. In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Lucille Bryant Hughes, of the home; three daughters: Kathy Sharpe of Swannanoa, Doris Ramsey and Nancy Jones and husband Robert, all of Candler; sister, Virginia Hughes Kirkpatrick of Asheville; brother, Fred L. Hughes, Jr. of Asheville; 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, including his heartbeat, Ashley Byrd, and two more great-grandchildren on the way. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Robert E. Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
