Ethel Johnston Hawkins

Asheville - Ethel Jerline Johnston Hawkins, 92, of 324 West Haywood Street, died Tuesday October 23, 2001 at her residence following a period of declining health. Mrs. Hawkins was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County and a member of Erwin Hills Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late John Burgin and Ella Asalee Bishop Johnston and wife of Wilburn Roscoe Hawkins who died in 1992. Surviving are her daughter, Ella Mae Reynolds of the home; son, Frank Roscoe Hawkins and Carolyn of Asheville; sister, Frances Brown of Asheville; grandchildren, Joe Reynolds and wife, Pat of Asheville and David Hawkins and wife, Mary of Leicester and great grandchildren, Andy, Brandon and Drew. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday in the Chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Whitted officiating. Burial will be in Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and at other times will be at the residence.
