Ella "Granny" Johnston

Woodfin - Ella Elizabeth English Granny Johnston, 85, of 35 Crestfield Ave. went to be with her Lord, Wednesday - March 29, 2006. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie Lee and Luila Moody English and the wife of the late Horace Samuel Johnston, Jr. who died in 1992. She was also preceded in death by a son, Billy Johnston. She was well liked and loved by many. Surviving are her daughters, Mae Thomas of Asheville, Jean Rich of Woodfin, Judy West of Waynesville, Brenda McCurry of Woodfin and Cathy Lee of Greenville, SC; sons, Donald Lee Johnston of Asheville and Al Johnston of Candler; 21 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Revs. Russell Gillespie, Jack Gassaway and Harold Webb officiating. Burial will be in the Clarks Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home and at other times at her residence.
