Edward Leonard Phillips

August 3, 1926 — February 7, 2005

Asheville - Edward Leonard Phillips, 78, of 110 Swannanoa River Road, went home to be with his Lord Monday, February 7, 2005 at St. Joseph Hospital after a brief illness. A native of Madison County, he had resided in Buncombe county since 1952. Mr. Phillips was a retired pipe fitter and a member of Trinity Baptist Church. He also served in the US Army during World War II. He was the son of the late Robert bliss and Chloe Jane Ramsey Phillips. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Vicki Grooms; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Phillips; and two brothers, Dewey Phillips and Bernard Phillips. Surviving are his wife, Lockie Arrington Phillips, of the home; his son, Bill Phillips of Asheville; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters: Lola Bradley, Nola Davis, and Christine Clark; and five brothers: Glenn Phillips, Fred Phillips, Willie Phillips, James Phillips, and Levi Phillips. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday at Trinity Baptist Church, with the Revs. Ralph Sexton, Jr., Jerry Young, and Donnie Walker officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Wednesday at Anders-Rice Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family to assist with funeral expenses.
