Asheville - Clarence McClelland Carter, Jr., 71, of 27 Sycamore Street died Friday, January 13, 2006, at his home. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he saw formerly employed by CTS on Mills Gap Road as a foreman where he was the youngest person to be promoted to foreman. He was a member and Deacon of Trinity of Fairview Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Clarence McClelland and Carrie Cornelia Sluder Carter and was also preceded in death by his brother, Alfred Carter. Surviving are his daughters, Carri Hudson and husband Eddie of Asheville and Kayla Chase and husband Mark of Andrews; sons, Steven Kent Carter and wife Desiree of Arden and Robert Carter of Swannanoa; former wife, Ruth Ann Carter of Mt. Home; sister, Nanette Caldwell and husband John of Candler; grandchildren, Brent Sharpton, Ryan Sharpton, Courtney Chase, Briana Chase, Andrew Chase, Joshua Carter and Benjamin Carter; nephew, Johnny Caldwell and wife Jane of Rutherfordton; niece, Rebecca Caldwell of VA and great nephews Brad, Brian and Brent all of Rutherfordton. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Chase and Rev. Dr. Ralph Sexton, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following services at the funeral home.
