Bertie L. Edwards

Asheville - Bertie Leona Edwards, 91, of 132 Vermont Avenue, passed away Friday, February 16, 2007 at the Brian Center of Weaverville. A native of Madison County, she had resided most of her life in Buncombe County. Bertie retired in 1981, along with her husband, as owners and operators of Edwards Bicycle Shop. She was of the Baptist Faith. Bertie was the daughter of the late Alfred David and Nora Rice Edwards, and the widow of Harvey Lawrence Edwards, who passed away in 1986. She was also preceded in death by her brother and sister, Murphy and Annie Edwards. Surviving are her sister-in-law, Clora Haynes of Alexander; two nephews: Gary Haynes of Alexander and Craig Haynes of Candler; niece, Rhonda Clevenger of Cedarville, OH; four great-nephews: Bryan Haynes and Brent Haynes, both of Alexander, and Christopher Haynes and Matthew Haynes, both of Candler; two great-nieces: Carla Shank of Dallas, TX and Courtney Clevenger of Cedarville, OH; two great, great-nieces, Savanna Hawkins of Leicester and Ally Shank of Dallas, TX and great great-nephew, Marty Shank of Dallas, TX. Graveside services will be held at 11 AM Monday at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4:30 PM Sunday at Anders-Rice Funeral home.
