Asheville Mary Ann Duckett Kurfees, 84, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native and resident most of her life of Buncombe County, she worked at Mars Mfg, American Enka Corp and returned to school to receive her LPN certification through A-B Tech and worked for Dr. Phillip Russell for over 20 years. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church for 47 years. Ann came to Eliada Home to live in 1945, where she made lifelong friendships and met her future husband, Fred, and supported Eliada Home throughout her life. An avid Bridge player for over 50 years, she played in many, many Bridge Clubs in the Asheville area. Mrs. Kurfees was a daughter of the late Beatrice Duckett Carroll and wife of Fred Crawford Kurfees who died July 25, 2016. Surviving are her children, Steve Kurfees and wife Pam of Grey, TN, Darlene Davis and husband J.W. and Danny Kurfees and wife Angela all of Asheville; grandchildren, Stephanie Bentley and husband Rusty, Brandon Kurfees and wife Brittney and Jillian Kurfees; great granddaughters, Nora Beth and Avery; sister, Gwen Koccur of Silver Springs, MD and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Friday, May 26, 2017 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Ronnie Owen and her son, Danny Kurfees officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:15 PM Friday at the church.
