Born in Buncombe County to George Purefoy and Carrie Ballard Morgan, she spent her childhood in the Cherryfield Community of Transylvania County, living for a time in Morganís Mill, which was built by her father. Her husband, Jack Wilson, was a Pearl Harbor survivor and a career veteran of the US Navy, and he and Nancy spent most of his career in Norfolk, VA. Following his retirement, they moved back to West Asheville, and for the past five years, Nancy had resided with her daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Nathan Ramsey.
