Candler – Jerry B. Gosnell, age 77, departed this life on Friday, November 6, 2009 with his loving family by his side, following a lengthy illness.
He was the son of the late William Milford and Mary Redmon Gosnell. He was preceded in death by his brother, Rev. David Gosnell.
Jerry worked as a deputy for the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Department under the administration of Harry Clay, as well as with the Woodfin Police Department. He was also the owner/operator of Country Woodworking. Jerry loved his hobby of fishing, and enjoyed his pets, Lady and Pretty Baby.
Jerry was a member of Avery’s Creek Baptist Church, and was a founding member of the Joyland Singers. By his gospel music, he helped spread the Gospel.
Surviving are his wife, Irene Elkins Gosnell; daughter, Vickie Craig of Canton; son, Keith Gosnell (Sherrie) of Alexander; grandchildren: Jodi Weatherman (Chris) and Sean Gosnell; great-grandchildren: Jonathan Hensley and Kayley Weatherman; sisters: Wanda Fox (Bob), Shirley Bowman (George), and Billie Redmon (Bill), all of Asheville; mother-in-law, Vera Warren Elkins of Asheville; ad several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Monday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home and Cremation Center, with the Rev. Bob Fox and Rev. Charlie Sams officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Jonathan Hensley, Chris Weatherman, Phil Evans, Jim Hart, Floyd Marler, and David Livengood. Honorary pallbearers are Rodney Hendrix, Bill Redmon, Don Tipton, George Bowman, Earl Allison, and Carl Thorpe.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 8 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
