Michelle and Family:
I was sorry to read about Michael. He was always such a sweet man. I was his school bus driver when we were all part of Sand Hill Middle School. Even recently when he would see me out anywhere, he would always be sure we spoke and shared some memories of those 'school bus rides'. Know you are being thought about. Glad we have those special memories of when we were all younger. Phyllis Jamison

Michelle, Donnie and Billy my heart goes out to you at this time. Mike touched so many lives and will be remembered fondly.

I wanted to share with you one of the best memories I have of Mike. It is with the West Asheville Youth Basketball program. He was the ref for a K-2 game at the end of the season. Michelle you were at the score table with me keeping the book and I was on the clock. There were a couple of twins who were the cutest kids in the world. The captured our hearts and it was the last game. One of the twins had scored several times during the season. The other twin hadn't scored yet for the season. Mike ran (well slowly jogged) past the table and asked if he was the only kid who hadn't scored this season. We said yes. So with a minute to go, he instructed on of his teammates to throw him the ball. He caught it and then Mike raised him up to the basket (the lower one) and he made his first basket of the season. The smile on his face was just priceless. That was Mike. Teaching and sharing his love for sports.

Some people say that in a child's early years of athletics is when they are most impressionable. For my boys Coach Mike did just that. Our family will forever be grateful to Mike for all that he did for my children's confidence, pride, and happiness. He was not just their football coach but a loved and respected friend. We will truly miss him and his big mouth. We are very grateful to have had him in our lives. He was certainly a one of a kind! It didn't matter that his "J-Bird" grew up and wasn't on his team anymore, he still followed him to make sure he was doing his best and keeping the basic fundamentals that he taught him in kindergarten. (secretly he would remind him to crush someone on the field)

I am praying for you and the boys during this difficult time. You know I am always just a phone call away. I am sending you all of my love and prayers to help ease some of the pain that you are going through.

We are going to miss Mike! He has been a great friend to our family for many years. Mike spent many hours and days at our home working with us on home improvement projects. When our children came along he was a big brother to them. Corey and Chelsey grew up believing that Mike was a family member. There was never a time when Corey or Chelsey saw Mike after Dad passed away that Mike didn't tell them how much he loved and missed my dad. Mike is truly going to be missed by a lot of people. I can see Mike and Dad now laughing and having such a great time in heaven like they did here on earth. Michelle, we love you and the boys and please know you all will be in our thoughts and prayers.

I have known Mike since I was 15 years old. He and my dad used to shoe horses together. Mike could always make you laugh and put a smile on your face. No matter what kind of day you were having. If it was good, he made it better. If you were having a bad day, he could make you smile and laugh.

Heaven sure did gain an angel.
