To my cousins son Tim. I'am so sorry for the lost of your father. When I heard of the news of your dad I was in total shock.Your dad and I was very close, he was my fanorite cousin and dearest friend. We talked alot about our family history and your dad did so much work searching and getting all the facts together,I just hope some one will carry it on. I sure would like to have copies of it,so I can try to finish his work. I know you'll miss him, I know I will. But he is flying with the angels now. Your dad earned his wings one feather at a time, they must be huge. I loved your dad with all my heart and I'll miss him,but I know now that he'll never be sick or in pain again. I'll keep you in my praysrs. Love Peggy

I met Jerry on the USS Sierra, many years ago. He was my sponsor when I made Chief, and along with my son, Danny, he pinned on my anchor. He was also very helpful when I was working on getting Surface Warfare qualified. Jerry always had a smile on his face and I am sure he is smiling on us all today. May he rest in peace and God be with his family.

Wish we could all get together more often, but it's hard to plan when you live so far away. You worked so hard on tracing our roots, i am just sorry you were unable to finish. We all knew how much it ment to you, maybe one day someone will carry on where you let off. You will forever be in our memories. Love your cousin Sue Clark

MARY LOU & FAMILY: I WAS SO SADDENED TO HEAR OF JERRY'S DEATH. JERRY WAS SUCH A FRIENDLY & CARING PERSON. EACH & EVERY TIME I WOULD SEE JERRY HE WOULD ALWAYS TEASE ME ABOUT SOMETHING WE WOULD REMEMBER FROM THE PAST. I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HOW MUCH JERRY LOVED HIS FAMILY. HE WAS SO PROUD OF HIS SONS & WOULD BRAG TO ME ABOUT THEM. THE LAST TIME I SAW JERRY WAS WHEN I LOST MY UNCLE GEORGE & WE SAW EACH OTHER AT THE FUNERAL HOME. IT SEEMS WE ALWAYS MET UNDER THESE SAD SITUATIONS. AT THIS TIME JERRY LET ME KNOW THAT HE WAS SAVED & GOING TO CHURCH. I WAS SO HAPPY TO HEAR THIS. I NEVER SAW JERRY THAT HE DIDN'T HAVE A BIG SMILE ON HIS FACE & NOW I KNOW HE'S SMILING IN HEAVEN. I PRAY THAT GOD WILL BE WITH EACH & EVERYONE OF YOU DURING THIS SAD TIME. WE NEVER WANT TO GIVE THOSE WE LOVE UP BUT GOD NEEDED JERRY IN HEAVEN MORE. I KNOW HE WILL CONTINUE LOOKING DOWN ON HIS FAMILY & KEEPING THEM IN HIS LOVING ARMS. MY PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU ALL.

Uncle Jerry, you will surely be missed by me and my family. I just want to say you were one of my favorite UNCLES growing up. When I got the news about you leaving this world it felt so unreal.. I was telling myself that this is just to hard to believe. I looked up to you as my second father, even though your brother David Johnston is my dad you still were a father figure to me growing up. I can remember taking our vacations when we were little coming to Asheville to visit you and Aunt Frances, Little Jerry and Timothy. I know you did not have to speak twice to any of us kids. I can also remember that oil painting of you that hung on Granny's wall at her house of you in the Navy..I use to get a kick out of it because your eyes in the painting would look as if you were watching me walk through the house and saying to me "you better be good"! I love that picture. Now, you can really keep your eye on me and my family from where you are at now. You have always been in my thougts growing up. I made sure every time I passed through Asheville, that we would stop and see Aunt Betty Jo, and Aunt Mary Lou, I would always ask to use their phone to try calling you to see if you could come by and see us while we stopped into visit. We will surely miss you Uncle Jerry. I just know now that you are not suffering anymore from any pain that you were having. I know that you are not alone where you are now. You are with Granny, Perry, Grandpa Arron, and Little Jerry, and Uncle Garry. I am sure that you are going to keep them all straight too.. I love and miss you!!

My sincere condolences and prayers are with Judy and Jerry's family during this time of sadness. Jerry and I have been email friends several years. I'm the historian for the Sprinkle & related families of WNC and Jerry was very interested in our family lineage. It was a pleasure to receive Christian notes of encouragement. My heart went out to him when Jerry, Jr. died. They are together now. They are attending a golden reunion with family members who passed many years ago. He will discover the answers to questions we discussed about our heritage. Jerry truly will be missed. God Bless, Ellen (Feldman) Whitsel

Chief Johnston. Jerry Johnston. I met him in September of 85. He bummed a cigarette from me. We were both on permanent change of station orders and going to the USS Sierra. Jerry came to work with me in the same division. He ran the outside machine shop. He was a loyal friend, worker and sailor. I worked with him for almost 4 years. He and I kept in contact until Monday night, when he called and told me his operation was being moved up. Chief Johnston was in pain most of the 24 years we knew each other. Believing in God I can't say he went before his time but he sure went before I was ready. At least he does not now have any pain. He served with pleasure and distinction. If he called you friend then you were respected and loved. Jim Shepard

Dear "cuz", When you called Monday to tell me they changed your surgery date to Tuesday, never did I think it would be the last time I heard "love ya girl, talk to ya later". Our comfort during all this is knowing that you are in heaven with the lord, your son, your Mom and Dad, and all those relatives you tracked down in the cemetary. I know you and my Mom have not stopped talking about how you found all those people. What we have is all the wonderful memories we have made in the past 10yrs. All the family gatherings, all the fun and laughter. We also shared heart ache and pain. We all loved each other as brothers and sister. Me, Dale, Keith and Mark are going to miss you so much. We loved you very much and will always keep you close in our hearts. Keep an eye on us, so we'll behave---you know how we are. Love you "cuz" Martha
