To: Ronnie and Karen and family I was very sorry to hear about Mike. Ronnie, you and Mike have always been the first ones I thought of when I needed body work done and you have always been so very easy to deal with. And, Karen, it was so good to see you and Mike at the reunion in August and, although reunions seem to have been the only time we have seen each other over the years (despite you and I being 4th cousins), I still remember all the smiles and laughter we all had after the 20th reunion at Denny's till the wee hours of the morning and all of the smiles and laughter we shared in high school. I always liked Mike. I remember talking with him at some family gatherings. I recall his sense of humor when my dad took photos at Mike and cousin Karen's wedding. He was great when we saw him a few years ago at Aunt Mark's funeral and at the wedding of his daughter. He had a relaxed, "at ease" way about him. He made everyone around him feel the same way. I am shocked and would like to express my condolences to Karen, her family, and her brother Blix.

Miriam Gebb contributed this message on Friday, September 5, 2008:

When my Dad died suddenly in a car accident, it seemed like a tremendous earthquake or destructive hurricane. Nothing was stable or predictable anymore. Everything seemed desolate. The following passage was a comfort to me and I hope it will be to you as well. 2 Corinthians 5: 1-9 Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. Now it is God who has made us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. We live by faith and not by sight. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from he body and at home with the Lord. So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. NIV Love and prayers, Miriam

Dear Karen and family: We are so sorry to hear about Mike going to be with the Lord. God need people of all ages in His heaven. Sorry we could not make it to the viewing or the funeral either. I (Blanca) have great memories of wonderful times of Bible studying when Mike was my Sunday School Teacher. I remember most his sincere love for Christ, his desire to bring people closer to Him, and his humility in being considered by God as His instrument to teach the Bible. May God offer you now the comfort and the strength you will need to go on. Remember that "He will never leave you, nor forsake you."(Joshua 1:8). May the knowing that Mike is enjoying sweet fellowship with Jesus help you at this time. Our prayers are with you. Love in Jesus, Blanca and Harvey

Please know you are in our hearts and prayers. Andy was a part of our race team for several years but will always be a part of our Wood family. Andy took the time to befriend our son, Keven, when I'm sure he'd loved to just shut that mouth more than once. Keven thinks the world of Andy, as do we. Andy spoke often of his Dad and family. The Andy we know, I feel certain made his Dad proud for many reasons. God promised us that we would see our loved ones again and he would bear our pain and burdens if we would only turn them over to him. Through your tears, as they are cleansing and healing, I hope you will allow yourselves to smile and laugh alot, as you remember the life that is now with our loving heavenly Father. When I first heard that Mike had passed away, I was very sad. Then I thought of where Mike was, and I visioned him going through the heavenly gate. 'Boy! I thought. There must be a hallelujah time going on in heaven. For there, standing just inside the gate was Mike's Dad, Junior Silver, with his arms outstretched. As they wrapped their arms around each ther, the joy bells of heaven began to ring, and the heavenly choir began to sing. If we could have heard Junior's thoughts right then, he would be saying "It's all right, Karen, Katie,Andy, Earline. He's with me now!" Mike will be missed by many people. He was one of my favorite people. He reminded me of his Dad. Jack Silver For Evelyn Silver Kent Patrick, Carolyn and Ivan We love you all

Dear Karen, Andy, Katie and Michael, Please know that we have you all in our prayers and thoughts as you are grieving for the loss of Mike from your lives. After seeing the unbelievable outpouring of people paying their respects to him, we decided it was best for us to spare you from standing any longer, just for us. We will certainly miss Mike and have only the deepest respect for the way he lived his faith. I only wish we had known the two of you when we lived in Weaverville only a few streets over on Orchard Place. But I promise to become a better friend and encourager to you Karen. May God give you strength and peace that passes all understanding as you bid farewell to Mike, and in facing the future without him. There is a joy that you have that makes this loss a little more bearable. Mike is in the arms of Jesus who loved Mike more than even you. We thank God for Jesus' promise of life with the Father and Himself and that He prepares a place for us. Mike is there now enjoying being in the presence of Jesus.Alleuia! Wow, how time has passed and lots of things have changed, but everyone could always depend on Mike Silver to be the same. He was a GREAT fella and will be missed by all who had the privilege to know him. Because of his faith and trust in Christ; I know we meet again. I'm so glad that nothing is ever lost, as long as you know where it is, and we know where he is. A song writer penned a song some years ago that says "It's so peaceful in the arms of my Lord". We both love Mike and Karen very much and remember the wonderful times we shared with them when we lived in Asheville. Mike has an uplifting spirit of gentleness and kindness. He made everyone feel like they were special and thought nothing about helping others in need in anyway he could. Mike had a talent for taking a pile of junk and turning it into a beautiful car. He did this twice for our daughter. If you were lucky to spend time just talking with Mike, you would come away feeling inspired by him. He truely was a genuine person and possed all the qualities of a great man who will be missed terribly....We feel at peace knowing that he is in Heaven with the Lord and our special memories will keep his spirit alive within us.

Dearest Karen, Andy and Katy, Words are inadequate to express the love and admiration our family has for one of the finest, kindest, most thoughtful and considerate men, our Mike. It was always an honor for Russ and I to sit with Mike on the left side of the church at New Bridge Every Sunday morning. Wonderful memories inspire us when we think of the years we have known your family and the way Mike was always available if anyone in the community needed help, he and Russ were always there together, the workers, the quiet ones. We love you all and please know we are here if you need us.

Karen, Andy, Katie, and Lois
My heart is truly with you all right now. It was such a shock to hear of Mike's passing. I have such fond memories of all of you when I was at Newbridge before. Mike was especially supportive of me when I worked with Katie first as a child and then as a youth. He also did some work for me on my little red geo metro after pulling it out from a ditch. He was a great man and will be missed. We do know though where he is, at the feet of Jesus and praise God it won't be long until we all see him again.
